Sorry for not posting very much lately.  I've had quite a bit on my plate the past 2 weeks.  It should slow down after tomorrow night.

BEVO BERRA!!

We are SMITTEN!!

Saturday, during my run, I kept thinking about how nice it would be to get a dog.  We've been talking about it forever and wanted to wait until the summer when I would be home to train it.  The more I thought about it I thought that maybe we could get a dog now- as long as we didn't get a puppy and we got something that was already trained.  We decided to go to the shelter and just see what was there and talk to the people to see which breed might be good for us.  We went to the shelter and started looking. Then we passed "Bruno (Bevo)."  He was so sweet!  We kept going back to him and Matt was in love.  The dog kept whining when we walked away.  Then it was my turn to melt.  We took him in a room and played with him.  He was SO happy and friendly!  The lady said that he would be a great running dog for up to 3 miles as he was so happy and liked to run around.  He's part Basset Hound and part Beagle.  He's too adorable for words.  They put a hold on him for us and had to "cat test" him as we have cats.  They called me to say that the passed with FLYING colors.  We picked him up today after he was neutered (hence the satellite dish). 

Bevo and the cats are great together.  We think Bevo is scared of Bill and Jackson doesn't know what's going on.  I am happy to report that there has been absolutely NO hissing and NO barking! YAY!!!

super saturday. . .

Today was a GREAT day!

I woke up early this morning was went running with Miami Beach Fit.  It was great.  We were supposed to do a 10 miler but I think I got a little lost and only made it 9.5.  It was AWESOME!  I came home and Matt had just finished his 10 miler.  I *think* he will sign up for the ING marathon. We will see. :-) 

After the run we had our post run ritual:

The cool bubbles of the spa are such a treat after a long and HOT run!  Nothing cools you off better than that with a G2.

After we got cleaned up we went to the runners depot and picked up some gel's and a fuel belt.  We drove off to a massive mexican lunch and we saw this...

opening night. . .

Monday Night FOOTBALL!!!

Monday couldn't pass fast enough!  Matt and I got tickets to the season opener on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!  I left school immediately after piano lessons and high tailed it to the Stadium.  I met Matt, Brian, Jen, Pops, and Kateri for some good tailgating fun.

Corn holing:

Matt was REALLY good at it!  I did not play. I was too busy chatting with Jen and Kateri and looking at the weird crowd that the stadium draws.  This game had your typical football fans, parrotheads (as Jimmy Buffet is part owner and was playing at the pre-game, and the randoms....

TERRIBLE!  The Dolphins have notoriously bad half time shows.  Seriously bad. For this game Jimmy Buffet was airing a new video that was a re-write of the "Fins" song with the Dolphins and Miami.  The "entertainment" was watching drunk football fans sway and stumble on the field with drunk parrotheads who came to the game for the whole reason of seeing Jimmy buffet perform at the beginning.  It was terrible- in a hilarious and sad way.  :-)

I DO want this hat tho...

All in all, the game was GREAT! I LOVE that the Dolphins cater to every single person in Miami.  We've got rednecks with high hair (and cut off jersey's with glitter on their stomachs), fashionistas walking the "orange carpet" with their stillettos, parrotheads, football fans, and us regluar fans.

I love Miami!!

neighbors . . .

The dolphins game last night was so fun but I'm SO tired.  I'll post a recap tomorrow or the next day.

I do want to introduce some new neighbors ...

We met them while we were coming back from Mass on Sunday.

the commute . . .

My new commute has me driving all around various sections of Miami and Broward.  I've found the best ways to get to and from work- for the most part.  I like to change it up every once in a while so I don't get bored.

One of the ways I go to work takes me through the ghetto.  I pass at least 6 strip clubs in a 6 block period and I lock my doors.  I take it in the morning because it's drops my commute from 50 minutes (on a bad day) to 35-40 (on a bad day).  Um- I'll take it.  The morning isn't too bad.  Not very ghetto in the morning.

I decided to try to take that route home to see if it was faster.  It is about the same as the non ghetto way but it's far more interesting.

This is in my school's neighborhood and that would explain some of the issues we've had. :-)

Farther along the trip I saw a truck with watermelon, tomatoes, corn, etc...  I was so happy! I thought I could stop off and pick up some fresh cheap produce.  I'm not having any luck finding farmer's markets around here.

My hopes were squashed pretty quickly . . .

Yes, you can see- this truck sells watermelon and BULLETS!!!  Sorry it's cut off a little- I didn't feel safe "lingering" and taking pictures of this. lol!

No thanks.

I think I'll be taking the turnpike home.

how did i forget to metion this? ? ?

This year I have a 6th grade homeroom.  They are the sweetest bunch around.  They are so innocent.  I think I've got them brainwashed or something.  I've had most of these children since 4th grade so they know me pretty well.  They come in quietly, sit down, and wait for directions.  It's weird.  Anyway, this year I've decided to teach them the "word of the day" from dictionary.com or merriam-webster.com.  We've learned some great words!

Last week the kids came into my room and asked what was the word of the day.  I said, "Oh- let's check!"  I opened the website and was stunned.  The word:

Yes, you saw that right.... crapulous,  CRAPULOUS!!  HOW can I have the word of the day with SIXTH graders be CRAPULOUS!!!

I quickly said, "Um... I don't think we can do word of the day today"  but I was clearly trying not to laugh.  The kids begged as they can totally sense when something is innappropriate.  Then I thought to myself- whatever- it's dictionary.com.  We can totally do this word.  LOL!

The kiddos HOWLED with laughter and got a kick out of repeating the man on the computer say, "Crapulous!"  I think it's funny and I guess it's good that I teach middle schoolers, seeing as my sense of humor seems as though it's completely aligned with one.  Now they BEG for word of the day in hope that it's something truly terrible.

yummy new dinner!

Pasta with Chicken and Cheese

I wasn't sure what to make for dinner tonight so I looked at what we had and created a YUMMY new dinner!  It's a great balance between carbs, protein, healthy fat, and vegetables!

I sauteed onions and garlic in olive oil.  I added one can of tomato sauce, one shredded chicken breast, and 1/2 a bag of frozen vegetables (steamed).  I added pepper and Italian seasoning to taste.  After it was all bubbly and delicious I added 4 wedges of laughing cow cheese to make it melty and gooey. I serve d it over pasta and with a side of garlic bread.

how the Berra's roll - football edition

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!

After hitting up hot yoga, Mass, and the grocery store on Sunday morning, we were READY for some FOOTBALL!

Here's how we celebrate:

some delicious brews:

*budweiser American Ale for Matt and Wild Blue blueberry lager for me (also budweiser)*

I told you were were brainwashed at the brewery!

and....

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP!

in a dutch oven or crock pot or whatever

-cream cheese block (we used fat free)

- franks red hot buffalo sauce (maybe 8-10 oz.)

- 2 cans draining chicken breast (you can be a purist and shred your own chicken if you want)

- and ranch dressing (8-10 oz.)  (we use fat free)

Serve with carrots, celery, and homemade tortilla chips. We use la tortilla brand tortillas and broil them.  They are much more cost effective and healthy.

And the wha? moment of the afternoon: 

Chad Johnson Ochocinco and his stats... (srsly, WHO changes their last name- legally- to his football number/nickname in SPANISH).
