Matt and I have always loved going to parks and nature preserves. It's something we've been doing every since we met! Matt was so excited to wake me up from me post-run nap on Saturday to tell me that he found a new nature preserve just 3 miles away. We *had* to see it *right now*! I suggested that it might be better to go in the morning, in the fall instead of 4:00 in the dead of August but whatever- there was no deterring the "Matt on a mission."
We got to the park and I have to say that I was DELIGHTED! It was amazing. We were the only people there (except for the teenagers making out in the last gazebo . . .methinks this may be a spot of sorts). Don't worry- I put my best teacher glare on.
THE ADVENTURE
Matt and I were laughing because this was the only place I've been (without cages or habitats set up) where there was a plaque AND the animal it was talking about happened to be there! Seriously! The plaque says, "Soft shell turtle" and you look over the edge of the walkway and lo and behold- there is a soft shell turtle! It was awesome.

Here are some of the things we saw... I did not photograph the illusive "red maple" or "oak" tree as I'm pretty sure my readers in the North know what one of those look like.
All-in-all this place was fantastic! We did not see any gators although we know they are there (we saw tracks). We will be going back to gator hunt every weekend until we find one!
:-)
Can't wait to see that area!
